It was May 18, 2003, and 21-year-old Cesar Chavez-Aguina, a Hispanic male, was at a gathering located at 944 S. Utica St. when the joyous atmosphere was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Unknown individuals began shooting into the residence, and in the chaos, Chavez-Aguina was struck by a bullet.
In the immediate aftermath, those with him rushed to get him
to a local hospital, using a private vehicle for the urgent transport. Despite their efforts to save him, the injuries he sustained were too severe. Cesar Chavez-Aguina died that day as a result of the gunshot wound he received during the attack.
The investigation into the death of Cesar Chavez-Aguina was opened by the Denver Police Department, but the individuals responsible for the shooting have never been identified. The case has since been moved to the department's Cold Case Unit in the hopes that new leads or advancements in investigative techniques might one day bring a resolution to this unsolved homicide.
