In the summer of 2007, a young life was tragically cut short on the streets of Denver. On July 22nd, 17-year-old Marcus Mason, a Black male, was visiting a friend in the area of 36th and Olive Street. The evening took a dark turn when Marcus and his friend were walking to another friend's house nearby.
As they made their way down the 3500 block of Olive Street, they encountered a group of several other men. An altercation broke out between Marcus and the group.
In a sudden act of violence, one of the individuals in the group pulled out a gun and shot Marcus. The group of men immediately fled the scene, leaving Marcus mortally wounded. He was pronounced dead that same day.
The Denver Police Department opened a homicide investigation into the shooting death of Marcus Mason. Despite their efforts, the case has grown cold over the years. The individuals responsible for his murder have never been identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the crime. The case remains an unsolved homicide, a painful open wound for the family and friends of the young man whose life was taken so abruptly on a summer night. Authorities continue to ask for anyone with information regarding the case to come forward.
