In the spring of 1985, a brave Denver Police officer named David Roberts, a 58-year-old male, found his life irrevocably altered by a violent encounter. On March 29th, while attempting to arrest a suspect embroiled in a thirteen-hour crime spree, he was shot in the face. The incident occurred at an apartment building on South Clarkson Street and left Patrolman Roberts with devastating injuries.
The grievous gunshot wound resulted in paralysis on the left side of his body. For years, he endured the consequences of that fateful day, his health steadily declining. After a long and arduous struggle, David Roberts succumbed to the injuries he sustained more than two decades earlier, passing away on May 27, 2011. He had served with the Denver Police Department for six years before the shooting forced his retirement.
The individual responsible for the shooting was apprehended and subsequently convicted of assault. This conviction, however, could not undo the years of suffering endured by Patrolman Roberts and his family. He was survived by his daughter, a brother, and two sisters, who were left to mourn the loss of a dedicated officer and beloved family member.
