In the early morning hours of February 15, 2015, the life of 27-year-old Marlow Jenkins-Martin was cut short in a burst of gunfire in Denver, Colorado. A Black man and a father of two, Jenkins-Martin was in the vicinity of 11th Avenue and Broadway when the fatal shooting occurred. The area, known for its nightlife, had just seen local bars and clubs letting out for the night.
Surveillance footage from the area captured the chaotic moments, recording the sound of two initial gunshots
followed by a rapid succession of six more. In the wake of the gunfire, several people were seen fleeing the scene. When the violence subsided, Jenkins-Martin was left on the ground, having been fatally wounded. Another woman at the scene was also struck by a bullet but sustained only minor injuries. At a vigil held in his memory, his sister recalled being right next to him when the shots rang out, stating she heard an altercation before the gunfire erupted.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Denver police began an investigation into the homicide. They appealed to the public for assistance, indicating that they were searching for two unidentified Black male suspects who were believed to have fired their weapons after a fight broke out. Despite the presence of a large crowd at the time of the incident and interviews with several witnesses, no arrests were made in the days following Jenkins-Martin's death.
As time passed, the investigation into the murder of Marlow Jenkins-Martin grew cold. There have been no subsequent public announcements regarding the identification or apprehension of any suspects. The case remains unsolved, leaving a lingering sense of injustice for the family and friends of a man remembered as a loving father and a cherished member of his community.
