In the early morning hours of September 13, 2015, a dispute that began inside PT's Showclub on East Colfax Avenue in Denver tragically ended in the death of 29-year-old Jeremy Garcia. A Hispanic male, Garcia was shot and killed in the parking lot of the strip club following an altercation inside. The incident unfolded around 12:30 a.m., prompting a swift response from Denver police who found Garcia with apparent gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led police to identify 31-year-old Stephen Futrell as the suspect. Futrell was arrested on Tuesday following the Sunday morning shooting and faced charges of first-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. The investigation suggested that the shooting was a targeted act of violence stemming from the earlier conflict inside the club.
In a subsequent legal proceeding, Stephen Futrell pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. This plea was part of an agreement that resulted in the dismissal of the first-degree murder and weapons charges. On April 29, 2016, the now 32-year-old Futrell entered his guilty plea and was facing a sentence of 24 to 40 years in prison.
