In the spring of 2016, a tragic and violent series of events unfolded in Colorado Springs, culminating in the death of 28-year-old Janice Nam. On the evening of May 30th, police were called to a residence in the 6000 block of Miramont Street where they discovered Nam, who had been fatally shot. The investigation quickly focused on her ex-boyfriend, Glen Galloway, who was initially named a person of interest. An arrest warrant for first-degree murder was issued for Galloway, who was described as a white male, and authorities warned that he should be considered armed and dangerous.
The history between Nam and Galloway was fraught with fear and violence. After their two-year relationship ended in 2014, Galloway began a campaign of stalking and harassment against Nam. She had sought protection from the law on multiple occasions, filing for several protection orders against him. Court records revealed the depth of her fear, with Nam stating she had no doubt Galloway was capable of killing her. His menacing behavior included threats, such as allegedly shouting, 'I have a gun and know how to use it.' His escalating actions led to a conviction for stalking in October 2015, for which he was fitted with an ankle monitor. However, just a day before his sentencing in January 2016, Galloway cut off the monitor and vanished.
Following a manhunt, Galloway turned himself in to the Colorado Springs Police Department. His subsequent trial brought to light the premeditated nature of the crime. Prosecutors argued that the murder was an act of revenge for his stalking conviction. Evidence presented, including surveillance footage, placed Galloway at Nam's home on the night of her death. It was revealed that Galloway had used a hammer to break into her home before beating and then shooting her. The drawer of her nightstand was found open, suggesting she may have been attempting to arm herself in her final moments.
Galloway was also on trial for the murder of a homeless man, Marcus Anderson. The prosecution contended that Galloway killed Anderson to steal his truck, which he then used to drive to Nam's residence. In June 2018, a jury found Glen Galloway guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Janice Nam and second-degree murder for the killing of Marcus Anderson. His conviction brought an end to a terrifying chapter of domestic violence that ultimately claimed the life of a young woman who had desperately sought safety.
