In a quiet home in southwest Pueblo County, the life of 52-year-old Leslie Howard Cole, a man who loved his family and riding his bike, came to a sudden and violent end. On the evening of June 23, 2020, a heated argument with his stepson escalated into a physical confrontation, shattering the peace of the household. The conflict took a fatal turn when the younger man, 24-year-old Tyler Idell, retrieved a gun and shot his stepfather.
Following the tragic event, it was Idell himself who
alerted authorities to the shooting. He placed a 9-1-1 call, reporting what had transpired at the residence in the 6400 block of Galbreth Road. When deputies from the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office arrived at approximately 8 p.m., they found Idell standing outside the home. He surrendered to the deputies without any resistance and was promptly taken into custody.
Inside the house, deputies found Leslie Cole suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a local hospital in an effort to save his life, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead. The investigation that followed led to the arrest of Tyler Idell, who was booked into the Pueblo County Jail on a charge of second-degree murder.
