In the spring of 2021, a young man's life was tragically cut short in a quiet community. Joseph Edward Barela Jr., a 22-year-old Hispanic male from Rocky Ford, Colorado, was found with a gunshot wound to his head on May 17, 2021. The incident occurred in the 29000 block of Otero County Road 20, just outside the city limits. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and Barela was quickly transported to the Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center for immediate medical attention.
