In the winter of 2021, a life was tragically cut short in southwest Denver. Ramon Hernandez, a 15-year-old male, was inside a residence in the 3600 block of West Linvale Place on November 27th when a firearm discharged, striking him. The incident, which occurred at approximately 1:26 a.m., involved Ramon and a 16-year-old acquaintance who were reportedly handling the weapon at the time.
Emergency services rushed Ramon to Denver Health Medical Center, but despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries two days later, on November 29, 2021.
Following the shooting, the Denver Police Department took the 16-year-old into custody. Initially arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, the charges were amended to manslaughter and possession of a handgun by a juvenile after Ramon’s passing. Due to the suspect's age, their identity has not been publicly released, and the case is being handled within the juvenile court system.
Born on August 11, 2006, to Tamara and Rafael D. Hernandez, Ramon is remembered by his family, which includes six siblings. A visitation was held at the family's home in Denver for loved ones to pay their respects. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life and grapple with the serious consequences of firearms in the hands of minors.
