In a tragic turn of events on July 28, 2022, 41-year-old Lindsay Elizabeth Daum, a female from Loveland, Colorado, was killed in her home in an act of domestic violence. The incident, which also claimed the life of her 16-year-old daughter, Meadow L. Sinner, unfolded at their residence near the intersection of Aries Drive and Pavo Court. The perpetrator was identified as Javier Acevedo, 49, who was Daum's ex-boyfriend.
On that Thursday afternoon, Acevedo arrived at Daum's home and opened fire, fatally shooting both Lindsay and Meadow. At the time of the horrific event, four other children were present in the house. A 12-year-old child inside the home bravely called 911 to report that their mother had been shot, while a 14-year-old also contacted emergency dispatchers. When Loveland Police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a chaotic and heartbreaking situation. The 14-year-old and Meadow, who was suffering from gunshot wounds, were found in the entryway. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by the officers, Meadow succumbed to her injuries. Officers also located and safely removed a 2-year-old from the backyard, a 5-year-old from the top of a stairway, and the 12-year-old who had made the initial call, hiding in a basement closet.
Following the shooting, Acevedo fled the scene in a Volkswagen Jetta, prompting a manhunt. Law enforcement was able to track his cell phone signal to Erie, Colorado. A witness in Erie reported seeing a man carrying a long gun, and a Denver Police helicopter soon located Acevedo. As officers approached, Acevedo turned the gun on himself, taking his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The investigation into the tragedy revealed a troubled history and prior threats. Acevedo had a significant criminal record that included arrests for child sexual assault and child abuse. In the months leading up to the murders, Daum had sought protection from him. She had filed for a protection order against Acevedo in September 2021, which was initially granted but later vacated. Another protection order was issued in November 2021, which required Acevedo to relinquish his firearms and wear a GPS monitor. Just two days before the fatal shooting, a concerned citizen had contacted Loveland Police to report that Acevedo had stated he was going to kill his wife, but authorities determined at the time that there was not enough probable cause for a criminal violation. The Larimer County Coroner's Office later confirmed that both Lindsay Daum and her daughter died from multiple gunshot wounds, ruling their deaths as homicides.
