In the early morning hours of November 26, 2022, the life of 23-year-old Eduardo Espinoza Bencomo Jr., a Hispanic male, was tragically cut short in a violent encounter at the Copper Stone Apartments in Lafayette, Colorado. The incident unfolded around 3 a.m. when police were dispatched to the residence at 750 South Lafayette Drive, where they discovered both a male and a female with gunshot wounds. Eduardo Espinoza Bencomo Jr. succumbed to his injuries hours later, while the female victim was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Investigations into the double shooting quickly identified a suspect: 24-year-old Anthony Yohari Lopez Olguin. Authorities believe the motive was a domestic dispute, suggesting Olguin was the ex-boyfriend of the female victim. It is alleged that Olguin broke into the apartment and, upon finding his ex-girlfriend with Espinoza Bencomo, opened fire on them both. The female victim was reportedly shot while she was on the phone with 911.
Following the shooting, an urgent search for Anthony Yohari Lopez Olguin was launched, with police warning that he was considered armed and dangerous. His vehicle, a white 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, was located by law enforcement, but Olguin himself remained at large. Further investigation revealed that Olguin had allegedly been aided in his escape from the United States. In August 2023, his mother, stepfather, and sister were arrested and charged with assisting him in fleeing to Mexico. As of late 2024, Anthony Yohari Lopez Olguin is still considered a fugitive.
