On a tragic day in Aurora, Colorado, 41-year-old Estancia Ann Martinez was found deceased in a home in the 1500 block of Evanston Street. It was Saturday, December 10, 2022, when concerned family members made the horrific discovery. Alongside Estancia, were the bodies of 18-year-old Marisol Espindola and 18-year-old Kaiden Castaneda. All three victims had apparent gunshot wounds.
The events leading to the discovery began earlier that day when Aurora police officers conducted a welfare check at the residence around 5:15 p.m. Finding nothing suspicious at the time, they did not enter the home. A couple of hours later, family members entered the house and found the three deceased individuals. Estancia Martinez had suffered what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head and chest area, as well as multiple stab wounds.
The investigation quickly centered on a suspect who was known to the victims, Estancia's 21-year-old son, Christopher Martinez. He was taken into custody in connection with the triple homicide and was formally arrested at approximately 5:30 a.m. the following morning. Initially, Christopher Martinez was charged with three counts of first-degree murder.
Court documents revealed that Christopher had gone to his grandparents' home and told his grandmother that he had a dream that his mother, sister, and Kaden were all dead. He later reportedly admitted to his grandmother, 'I think I killed my mom and sister. I think I hurt them.' In October 2024, Christopher Martinez, then 23, pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree murder. According to an arrest affidavit, he admitted to stabbing his brother and shooting his sister and mother while he was blackout drunk. His sentencing was scheduled for the following January.
