On a late afternoon in Gallup, New Mexico, on June 1, 1937, Special Agent Truett E. Rowe, a 33-year-old White male, met an untimely and violent end. Rowe, an agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, was in the process of apprehending a fugitive named Guy Osborne at his brother's ranch. Osborne was a known criminal, wanted for escaping from a county jail in Eufala, Oklahoma, on April 22, 1937, and also faced charges for motor vehicle theft in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
