On November 5, 1989, deputies from the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the Santa Clara Cemetery, located at 617 Foothill Dr. SW in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to investigate a report of a male victim found dead. Upon arrival, the body was identified as 34-year-old John H. Salas.
