On March 19, 2021, 40-year-old Dominic Lueras was fatally shot during a confrontation at the Sun Pointe Park apartment complex in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, leading to his death.
According to a criminal complaint, the altercation began when Lueras and 24-year-old Manuel Vargas agreed to fight each other. Surveillance footage revealed that both men were armed; Lueras approached Vargas with a gun in his hand and was shot.
Vargas was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Lueras's death.
Lueras's obituary notes that he was born on August 26, 1981, and was preceded in death by his grandfather, Billy. He is survived by his mother, Angel; father, Daniel; stepfather, Rito; sisters Aja-Marie, Holly-Ann, and Laci; and other family members.
The Albuquerque Police Department's investigation into the incident concluded that the shooting was the result of a mutual agreement to fight between the two men. Vargas's arrest and subsequent charge of first-degree murder indicate that authorities determined his actions were unlawful.
