On a tragic evening in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, Nacunan Saez, a 37-year-old White male, lost his life in a violent rampage. The date was December 14, 1992, and the setting was the campus of Bard College at Simon's Rock. Saez, a respected professor of Spanish, was one of two fatalities in a shooting that shattered the peace of the small college community.
The harrowing event began around 10:20 p.m. when an 18-year-old student named Wayne Lo opened fire.
Lo, armed with a legally purchased SKS semi-automatic rifle, began his assault near the school's security area. During the ensuing chaos, Saez was fatally shot in the head while in his car. Another member of the college community, 18-year-old student Galen Gibson, was also killed. In addition to the two deaths, four other individuals were wounded during the attack.
The shooter, Wayne Lo, surrendered to the police after his rifle jammed. He was subsequently arrested and put on trial. The legal proceedings concluded with Lo's conviction on two counts of first-degree murder, along with multiple counts of attempted murder and assault. He received a sentence of two life terms in prison without the possibility of parole.
