On a summer evening in Boston, 18-year-old Her Taylor III, a Black male, was fatally shot on July 12, 2006. The incident occurred around 6:16 p.m. in the vicinity of 194 Humboldt Avenue in the Roxbury neighborhood. Taylor, a student at Belmont High School through the METCO program, had recently started a new job. He was walking home from a friend's house on Crawford Street when he was approached by an individual.
Following a brief exchange, the assailant produced a handgun and fired
multiple shots, striking Taylor. Despite his injuries, Taylor managed to make his way to Humboldt Street, where he collapsed. He was quickly transported to Boston Medical Center, but doctors were unable to save his life and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting continued for over a year. In October 2007, the Boston Police Department and the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office announced the arrest of a suspect. Lamory Gray, 22 years old at the time of his arrest, was taken into custody and charged with the murder of Her Taylor III. Authorities stated that their investigation suggested Gray and Taylor did not know each other prior to the fatal encounter. Gray was expected to be arraigned in the Roxbury Division of the Boston Municipal Court.
