In the late hours of a Thursday evening in South Boston, the life of a young Black/African American man, Clevan Cleve Richards, 22, was tragically cut short. On April 5, 2018, Richards, a resident of Randolph, was sitting in a car on Costello Circle when he was fatally shot. The Boston Police Department received a call about the shooting at approximately 11:45 p.m. and dispatched officers to the scene.
Upon their arrival, police discovered Richards suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The vehicle he was in, which had a visible bullet hole in the windshield, was later towed away by investigators. The incident also left its mark on the neighborhood, as another resident reported discovering bullet holes in her own car the following morning.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Boston police homicide detectives launched an investigation into what was ruled the city's 13th homicide of the year. Authorities appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information to come forward and providing anonymous tip lines for those who wished to do so. However, despite these efforts, no suspects were publicly identified in the days following the incident. As of more recent reports from the Boston Police Department regarding unsolved cases, the homicide of Clevan Cleve Richards remains without a resolution, and no arrests have been announced in connection with his death.
