In the cold of February 2014, the life of 46-year-old Nhung Nguyen, a mother of three, was tragically cut short. Her body was discovered in a parking lot at the Auburn Mall, where she was found with a fatal gunshot wound to her head. The grim discovery launched an investigation into the violent end of a woman who was known to be a dedicated mother.
Investigators soon focused on Vu Van Ngo, a 30-year-old man from Worcester who was a co-worker of Nguyen.
The two had a routine of carpooling to their place of employment. It was during one of these shared rides that the fatal shooting occurred inside Ngo's vehicle. In the initial stages of the police inquiry, Ngo attempted to deflect blame and pointed investigators toward another individual.
Ultimately, the evidence led back to Ngo, and he was charged with her murder. However, in a turn of legal events, he later reached a plea deal. Ngo pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter and also admitted to misleading the police investigation. In March 2017, he was sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in prison. The sentence was composed of 19 years for the manslaughter charge, with a consecutive six- to seven-year term for his efforts to deceive law enforcement.
