In the spring of 2015, the life of 33-year-old Jeromie Johnson, an African-American man, was cut short in a burst of violence on a street in Boston. On the evening of April 8th, Johnson was inside a vehicle on Richfield Street in the Dorchester neighborhood when gunfire erupted. Struck by the bullets, he was rushed to Boston Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts, he would not survive, succumbing to his wounds a month after the shooting.
Another man in the car with him was also hit by gunfire but survived the attack.
The investigation into Johnson's death quickly became entangled with another serious crime that had occurred just a week earlier. Detectives began to suspect a connection between the shooting on Richfield Street and a home invasion on March 31, 2015. In that incident, multiple people were shot, and a fire was intentionally set at the residence. As police delved deeper, they uncovered frequent communication between Johnson and his associate who was with him during the shooting, suggesting a possible link to broader criminal activities.
The man who survived the shooting alongside Johnson was identified as Victor Arrington. Following the incident, police seized cell phones from the scene and from Arrington's property at the hospital. These phones became a crucial point of contention in the ensuing investigation into the March 31st home invasion and murder. Over a year later, a cooperating witness identified Arrington as a participant in that earlier crime, stating that "Vic" was the same individual who had been shot with Johnson. While Arrington was subsequently indicted in connection with the home invasion, the assailant or assailants in the shooting that claimed Jeromie Johnson's life have never been publicly identified. No arrests have been made in his murder, and the case officially remains an unsolved homicide. The Boston Police Department continues to seek information from the public, leaving a family without answers and a community marked by the unresolved violence of that spring evening.
