In the early hours of a Saturday morning in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the life of a 28-year-old Black / African American man, Ednilson Decosta of Dorchester, was tragically cut short. On October 14, 2017, at approximately 3:30 a.m., while sitting in a car on Windsor Street, Decosta was fatally shot. He was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Originally from Picos, Cabo Verde, Decosta had moved to the United States at the age of 18.
After graduating from high school, he obtained his commercial driver's license and worked as a truck driver. Known for his kind and generous nature, he had a passion for cars and brought joy to those who knew him. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the Middlesex District Attorney's Office and the Cambridge Police Department launched an active and ongoing investigation into the homicide. At the time, authorities reported that they had no suspects in custody and were seeking information from the public.
Years have passed since Ednilson Decosta's life was taken, and his case is now considered one of Cambridge's unsolved murders.
