On the morning of August 6, 2020, the life of 26-year-old Lovenson Pierre of Quincy was tragically cut short. Gunshots rang out near the intersection of Hazleton Street and Blue Hill Avenue in Boston's Mattapan neighborhood. When police responded to reports of the shooting at approximately 9:09 a.m., they discovered Pierre suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Boston EMS personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced him dead.
The investigation into Pierre's death led Boston police to identify a suspect. In October 2020, Jason E. Woods, a 27-year-old from Mattapan, was arrested and charged with the murder of Lovenson Pierre. At the time of his arrest for the murder, Woods was already in custody at the Nashua Street jail on a separate matter. The charges against Woods included murder, armed assault with intent to murder, and several firearms violations.
Ultimately, justice for Lovenson Pierre came in the form of a guilty verdict. A Suffolk Superior Court jury convicted Jason Woods of second-degree murder for the fatal shooting. A conviction for second-degree murder carries a mandatory life sentence with the possibility of parole.
