In the pre-dawn hours of Sunday, January 31, 2021, a gathering at the Mastlight apartment complex in Weymouth, Massachusetts, turned tragic, ending the life of 30-year-old Eric Small of Cambridge, a Black / African American male. The quiet of the morning was shattered around 3 a.m. by the sound of multiple gunshots, prompting calls to the police.
Upon their arrival at the Patriot Parkway complex, law enforcement discovered a chaotic scene in the parking lot.
Three individuals had sustained gunshot wounds. Eric Small was found with fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. A fourth individual was also taken to the hospital for a medical issue that was not directly related to the gunfire.
Investigators believe the violence originated from an indoor event or party that escalated and spilled out into the parking lot. A significant police presence, including SWAT teams, descended on the area as the investigation began. Witnesses reported hearing between 15 and 20 gunshots and seeing numerous people fleeing the scene in vehicles.
Despite the number of potential witnesses, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Authorities have stated that they do not believe the incident was a random act of violence and have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat. The police have appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone who was at the apartment complex or has information about the shooting to come forward to aid in their investigation into the death of Eric Small.
