In the early evening of July 14, 2021, a verbal dispute between roommates inside a two-family home on Ware Street in Somerville, Massachusetts, escalated into a fatal encounter. Robert Favreau, a 22-year-old Caucasian male from Cambridge, was shot and killed. He had been living in the residence for several months with his roommate.
Police were dispatched to the scene around 5:45 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from a woman who witnessed the shooting and was hiding in a closet.
Upon arrival, officers found 26-year-old Edson Moreno, a resident of the home, outside the building with a handgun. Moreno complied with police orders to drop his weapon and was taken into custody without further incident.
Inside the residence, law enforcement discovered Robert Favreau suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders to render aid, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The preliminary investigation indicated that a verbal argument between Favreau and Moreno preceded the shooting.
Edson Moreno was arrested and subsequently faced charges including armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and possession of a firearm. He was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing. The investigation was conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney's Office, Somerville Police, and Massachusetts State Police.
