On May 21, 1998, the community of Springfield, Oregon, was irrevocably scarred by a school shooting that claimed the life of 16-year-old male, Ben Walker. The tragedy began to unfold the day before when 15-year-old Kipland Kinkel, a freshman at Thurston High School, murdered his parents at their family home.
