On the evening of March 21, 2014, in a home in Junction City, Oregon, a family dispute escalated into a fatal encounter. Inside the residence on David Lane, which he shared with his elderly father, 37-year-old Billy Raymond House, a male, was involved in a physical confrontation with him. The altercation concluded when the elder House, 81-year-old Billy Thomas House, fatally shot his son.
Following the shooting, it was Billy Thomas House himself who notified authorities, placing a call to 911 at 10:45 p.m. to report the incident. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found Billy Raymond House with a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Investigators from the Lane County Sheriff's Office took the elder House into custody for questioning. After providing his account of the events that transpired, he was later released. The Lane County District Attorney's Office was then tasked with reviewing the case to determine the legal ramifications of the shooting. Their review would ultimately decide whether the act was considered a criminal homicide or a justified use of force in self-defense. There have been no subsequent reports of any arrests or charges being filed in the case.
