On the evening of January 2, 2017, the life of 53-year-old Brenda Marie Flues was brought to a sudden and tragic end in her Molalla, Oregon home. The incident unfolded in the 800 block of June Drive, where law enforcement responded to a distressing 911 call around 9 p.m. Upon arrival, they found that Brenda had been shot in the face. Despite the immediate medical response, she succumbed to her injuries while en route to the hospital.
The initial investigation quickly centered on her
husband, Wayne Edmund Flues, who was also 53 at the time. Wayne Flues himself made the call to 911, claiming that the shooting was a terrible accident. He told authorities that he had been drinking and arguing with his wife, and during the dispute, he pointed a gun at her and pulled the trigger, allegedly unaware that the firearm was loaded. This claim of an accidental shooting became a central point in the subsequent legal proceedings.
Following the event, Wayne Flues was taken into custody and booked into the Clackamas County Jail, initially facing a murder charge for his wife's death. The case, however, evolved over the following months. On November 16, 2017, the legal saga reached its conclusion when Wayne Flues pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. This plea was part of an agreement with the prosecution. Consequently, he was sentenced to serve time for the killing of his wife, Brenda, a woman remembered by friends and family for her contagious, beautiful smile.
