In the early morning hours of January 10, 2017, a call reporting an accidental shooting broke the quiet in La Pine, Oregon. At approximately 3:47 a.m., deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene to find James Glenn Overby, a 66-year-old male, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate medical attention he received, Overby succumbed to his injuries.
An investigation into the circumstances of the shooting was launched by the authorities.
The probe ultimately determined that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted and the death was accidental. With this conclusion, the investigation was closed, and officials announced that there was no foul play involved in Overby's death. Consequently, no suspects were sought, and no arrests were made in connection with the incident.
James Glenn "Hillbilly" Overby was born on April 17, 1950. Following his death, a private urn committal was held with military honors at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Oregon, to honor his life and service.
