On March 17, 2021, a tragic incident occurred at a WinCo Foods grocery store located in the Russell neighborhood of Northeast Portland, Oregon. Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the store, situated at 1950 N.E. 122nd Ave. Upon arrival, police found 60-year-old Jay Underwood, who had succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation into Underwood's death led detectives to identify a suspect in the case. The suspect, named Daniels, was alleged to have shot and killed Jay Underwood ...
