In the early morning hours of October 12, 2022, a violent encounter in a 7-Eleven parking lot in Milwaukie, a suburb of Portland, Oregon, claimed the life of 42-year-old Stanafurd Samuel Lee Blacknall, a Black male from Multnomah County. The incident, which also resulted in the death of 32-year-old Jamahl Akeem William Nash, unfolded shortly after their vehicle pulled into the convenience store lot around 1:31 a.m.
Surveillance footage captured a brief interaction between Blacknall and a
man later identified as Frank Efrin Nifon. Moments later, as Nash attempted to drive away, another individual, Kaythan Miguel Tenry, began firing into the driver's side and rear of the vehicle. Nifon then joined in, shooting at the passenger side as the car sped out of the parking lot. A short chase ensued, ending when the vehicle, riddled with 15 bullet holes, crashed into a fire hydrant. Both Blacknall and Nash were found deceased inside the car, having suffered fatal gunshot wounds. The Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed that both men died as a result of homicidal violence.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led authorities to identify two suspects: Frank Nifon, 24, and Kaythan "Mar Mar" Tenry, 19. Surveillance video from a nearby apartment complex captured muzzle flashes and images of the shooters, which were disseminated to law enforcement. A significant break in the case came just two days after the shooting when a Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputy, investigating a separate incident, recovered a firearm. Ballistics testing matched the weapon to shell casings found at the 7-Eleven crime scene. That same day, the deputy spotted Nifon and Tenry at a local hospital.
Frank Nifon was arrested on October 31, 2022, in Washington State. Kaythan Tenry remained at large until he was located following an officer-involved shooting in Washington on November 14, 2022, where he sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Nifon, who had been out of prison for less than a year and was on post-prison supervision at the time of the murders, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree manslaughter and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Kaythan Tenry pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder and received a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 30 years. While the legal proceedings have concluded, a clear motive for the shooting has not been publicly released.
