In the early morning hours of December 17, 2014, the life of 28-year-old Gerald Maxwell, a Black male, was tragically cut short in a Rand, West Virginia apartment. The events leading to his death began the night before, at a house party hosted by Robert Obey. The gathering, attended by Maxwell and several others, was characterized by the use of drugs and alcohol.
