On August 24, 2018, 23-year-old Kence Andrew Hedrick tragically lost his life in an accidental shooting near Alderson, West Virginia. The incident occurred on Mt. Vernon Road in the Fort Spring area around 10:45 a.m. Both the Greenbrier County Sheriff's Department and the West Virginia State Police responded to the scene. Sheriff Bruce Sloan identified the victim as Hedrick and indicated that the body was sent to the West Virginia Medical Examiner's Office as part of the investigation.
Hedrick, a resident of Ronceverte, West Virginia, was known for his love of the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and motorcycles. He is survived by his father, Jason Wayne Hedrick; mother, Katherine Lynn Humphrey; daughter, Brook-lynn Hedrick; brother, Payton Hedrick; and sisters, Jaycalin and Josie Hedrick.
Prior to his death, Hedrick had a history with law enforcement. He was arrested on October 22, 2017, in West Virginia, as documented by West Virginia Mugshots.
In the aftermath of the shooting, authorities classified the incident as accidental. There were no reports of arrests or identification of suspects related to Hedrick's death. The Greenbrier County Sheriff's Office led the investigation, and no further details have been publicly disclosed.
