Saige McKenzi Baker-Brewer, a 10-year-old White/Caucasian female, passed away on April 2, 2021, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Her life was cut tragically short due to injuries she sustained from gun violence the previous day. Saige was a vibrant young girl who attended Moorefield Intermediate School and had a passion for sports like basketball and soccer, a love she shared
with her late mother. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life: going to school, playing outside, riding her bike, swimming, and jumping on the trampoline.
The tragedy that claimed Saige s life also took her mother, Brandi Renae Baker, and her 9-month-old brother, Londan Quaid-McKenzi Baker, who both died on April 1, 2021. The circumstances surrounding their deaths were investigated by authorities, with news outlets reporting the incident as an apparent murder-suicide where the mother was believed to have shot her children before taking her own life. There have been no reports of any other suspects or arrests in connection with this devastating event.
Saige was born on August 9, 2010, in Petersburg, West Virginia. Those who knew her remember a girl who adored her animals and cherished the time she spent with her grandparents and extended family. In the wake of this profound loss, the community came together to remember the young lives lost. A joint Celebration of Life was held for Saige and her brother Londan on April 18, 2021, at the Believer's Victory Center in Moorefield. To honor her memory and create a lasting legacy, a scholarship fund was established in Saige's name.
