On March 11, 2016, Black male Terall Adams, age 20, was shot multiple times while sitting in a vehicle on the 800 block of North Latrobe Avenue in Chicago's Austin neighborhood.
The shooting happened around 5:45 p.m., and first responders rushed him to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m. He had been living in Plainfield, a southwest suburb, and an autopsy later determined he died of multiple gunshot wounds, which were ruled a homicide.
Police described the attack as a drive-by: shots were fired from another vehicle before the assailant or assailants fled. Early accounts that weekend reported the fatal car-to-car shooting and noted the location and timing, but did not provide a description of the shooter.
In the immediate aftermath and in follow-up coverage that week, authorities did not announce any arrests connected to the killing of Terall Adams, age 20.
