In Des Moines, Iowa, on June 19, 2005, the life of 48-year-old Jeanne Flaherty, a female, was tragically cut short in a violent encounter. Earlier that Sunday, Flaherty had sought medical attention after being assaulted and had taken the step of filing charges against her assailant, 52-year-old James Samuel. The two were described by authorities as acquaintances who were not in a romantic relationship, though Flaherty had been staying at Samuel's east-side residence.
