On the evening of May 29, 2010, Jeffrey D. McAdam, a 46-year-old White/Caucasian male from Victor, Iowa, was working at a rest area along Interstate 80. His life was abruptly cut short when he was fatally shot. A passing truck driver discovered McAdam in the men's restroom, suffering from a gunshot wound, and immediately alerted the authorities. Despite the quick response from emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide moved swiftly, and
within a day, a suspect was in custody. On May 30, 2010, law enforcement arrested 31-year-old Peter Riggs of Columbus, Nebraska, in connection with the shooting. Riggs was apprehended in Johnson County, Iowa, and subsequently charged with McAdam's murder. At the time of the arrest, investigators did not publicly disclose a motive for the tragic event.
Jeffrey McAdam, born on July 1, 1963, in Marengo, Iowa, had a varied work history that included being an over-the-road truck driver and, most recently, a maintenance worker for LME Cleaning Services at the rest area where he was killed. He was also a skilled and passionate taxidermist, owning a business called Jeff's Taxidermy. Known as an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, he was a devoted family man and an active member of his community, even coaching youth sports. His sudden and violent death left his family, including his wife and three children, and the community of Victor in mourning.
