On May 31, 2018, the body of 22-year-old Shavondes Martin was discovered in an alley in Waterloo, Iowa. The alley was located between several residences, and the discovery was made at approximately 5:30 a.m. An investigation revealed that Martin had been shot nine times with two different types of ammunition. Neighbors in the area reported hearing gunshots around 3:30 a.m., which provided a critical timeline for the events surrounding Martin's death.
