In the quiet community of Ankeny, Iowa, a welfare check on June 4, 2018, led to a grim discovery at the Autumn Ridge mobile home park. Inside one of the homes, police found the bodies of 44-year-old Caucasian female Karen Jayne Edsinga and 45-year-old Lonnie Robert Perry. It was apparent to the responding officers that both individuals had been deceased for a considerable amount of time, as the bodies were in a state of advanced decomposition.
The Ankeny Police Department, along with the
Polk County Medical Examiner, launched an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the two deaths. Autopsies were performed to determine the cause and manner of death for both Edsinga and Perry. The results of the medical examination revealed that both individuals had died from gunshot wounds.
Further investigation and analysis of the evidence collected at the scene led the authorities to a startling conclusion. The Polk County Medical Examiner ruled Karen Jayne Edsinga's death a suicide, determining that her gunshot wound was self-inflicted. The manner of Lonnie Robert Perry's death, however, remained undetermined. It could not be definitively concluded whether his gunshot wound was self-inflicted or if it had been inflicted by Edsinga. Despite this ambiguity, investigators found evidence at the scene suggesting that the actions of both Edsinga and Perry were consensual.
