On April 15, 1999, a tragic shooting occurred at the Family History Library in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah. Among the victims was 55-year-old Patricia Irene Frengs from Pleasant Hill, California. Patricia, an avid genealogist, had traveled to Salt Lake City with her husband, John, to utilize the library's extensive genealogical resources during an international genealogical convention. She was dedicated to researching her family tree and had visited the library on previous occasions.
