In the small, quiet town of Central, Utah, a tragedy unfolded on March 22, 2012, forever altering the lives of a young family. Five-year-old Caucasian female, Eliza Kate Parker, a kindergartener at Enterprise Elementary School, was killed in her home. Her life, full of the promise of childhood, was cut short in an act of violence that also claimed her 25-year-old mother, Adria Jordan "AJ" Parker.
Adria had moved to the rural southern Utah town from Pennsylvania about a year prior, drawn to its beauty and the sense of safety it seemed to offer for raising her daughter. She had recently started a relationship with 24-year-old Landon S. Jorgensen, a former U.S. Marine. The relationship had moved quickly, with Jorgensen moving into Adria's home. To friends, Jorgensen appeared clingy and possessive. The relationship was reportedly tumultuous, with neighbors recalling hearing frequent arguments from the residence.
On that Thursday, after Adria decided to end their relationship, the situation escalated with fatal consequences.
