In a harrowing sequence of events that began in Salt Lake City and concluded in a desolate region of Tooele County, 38-year-old Caucasian male Jason Nakonechni was tragically killed on September 4, 2014. The ordeal was set in motion when Nakonechni was lured to a motel room by acquaintances. Waiting for him inside were several individuals who immediately launched a savage assault.
The attack was so severe that it resulted in significant blood loss and injuries, including the loss of several teeth. Despite a desperate attempt to flee, Nakonechni was overpowered and restrained by his attackers, who then continued the brutal beating.
Following the initial violence at the motel, the assailants forcibly took Nakonechni to a residence in West Valley City. There, the torture persisted as he was questioned about allegedly being an informant and was robbed of his personal belongings, including his car and his dog. The motivation for this brutal kidnapping and assault stemmed from a dispute over money and drugs. One of the suspects claimed Nakonechni owed him money, and there were also accusations that he had been a "snitch." This grim journey culminated in Nakonechni being driven to a remote rock pit in Tooele County. There, he was reportedly forced to his knees before being shot in the head. His abandoned vehicle was discovered engulfed in flames in Salt Lake City the following day. It wasn't until September 18, two weeks after he was last seen by his mother, that he was officially reported as a missing person.
The investigation into Jason Nakonechni's disappearance eventually uncovered the grim details of his final hours, leading to the discovery of his body in Tooele County on November 21. This breakthrough was reportedly aided by information provided by the suspects themselves. The subsequent police investigation led to the arrests of five individuals in connection with the crime. Michael Shaine Snyder, Marilee JoAnn Borden, Corey Lee Petersen, Allison Wells, and Rodney Neil Maxwell were all taken into custody. They faced a litany of serious charges, including aggravated kidnapping and murder, with Snyder being singled out with a charge of aggravated murder as the alleged gunman. The investigation revealed a coordinated effort among the five to lure, assault, and ultimately end the life of Jason Nakonechni.
