In the quiet community of Cedar City, Utah, the life of Shawn Multine, a 45-year-old man, came to an abrupt and violent end on October 21, 2014. What initially may have seemed like an isolated tragedy soon unraveled into a story of betrayal and a meticulously planned conspiracy involving those closest to him. The investigation into his death would reveal a dark plot orchestrated by his own stepdaughter and her accomplices, shattering the peace of the small city.
Shawn's stepdaughter, Clarissa Bullets, who was 18 at the time, played a central role in the events leading to his murder. Along with her 34-year-old ex-boyfriend, Angelo Seth Carrasco, and their 29-year-old associate, Eric Albert Rodriguez, a plan was set in motion. On that fateful day, Bullets drove the two men to a location with the intention of confronting Shawn. She had provided a rifle that was kept in the trunk of her car. The initial part of the plan involved luring Shawn out of a residence. Rodriguez first entered a home where they believed Shawn was, in an attempt to get him to come outside where Carrasco was waiting with the rifle. When this failed, Bullets sent text messages to her stepfather, trying to entice him to another location where the men were lying in wait.
When their attempts to draw Shawn out proved unsuccessful, the trio proceeded to another home where he was located. Rodriguez stood in the driveway and yelled for Shawn to come outside, but he did not emerge. At this point, Angelo Carrasco took matters into his own hands. He forced his way into the residence and shot Shawn once with the high-powered rifle. Following the fatal shooting, the group fled the scene. Rodriguez assisted in disposing of the murder weapon, and Bullets drove both him and Carrasco away from the area, hoping to conceal their involvement.
The investigation by the Cedar City Police Department quickly identified the three individuals. Within days, Carrasco, Rodriguez, and Bullets were all arrested and faced serious charges for their roles in the homicide. The subsequent legal proceedings revealed a possible motive for the crime. During Clarissa Bullets' preliminary hearing, testimony indicated that she had told Carrasco that her stepfather had molested her. All three eventually pleaded guilty to their involvement in Shawn Multine's death. Angelo Seth Carrasco, the shooter, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. Eric Albert Rodriguez pleaded guilty to murder and received a sentence of 15 years to life in prison.
