Leroy Swift Eagle Murray, a 28-year-old male, passed away on August 13, 2016. Born in Roosevelt, Utah, on February 22, 1988, he was a resident of Randlett. His death occurred at the University of Utah Hospital. He worked as a roustabout in the oilfield and in construction. In his personal life, he was known for his good sense of humor and for being a tease to his nieces and nephews. He had a passion for the outdoors, enjoying activities like hunting and riding 4-wheelers.
He was also a former Jr. Bull Rider. His family was important to him, and he enjoyed spending time with his father at Sundances.
His death was the result of gun violence on the Uintah-Ouray Indian Reservation. In connection with the shooting death of Murray, who was a member of the Ute Indian Tribe, a federal grand jury indicted a man. The suspect, Trent Sowsonicut, was ultimately charged in the killing.
Following the investigation, Trent Sowsonicut entered into a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter for the death of Leroy Swift Eagle Murray. As a result of his guilty plea, Sowsonicut was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison.
