In the early morning hours of March 3, 2018, a party at the Mountain Shadow Apartments in South Salt Lake, Utah, turned deadly, claiming the life of 24-year-old Patrick Steven Andrews. Remembered by his family as a charismatic and loving man who always wore a smile, Patrick was a devoted father, son, and brother with a passion for football.
The festive atmosphere of the gathering soured around 3:30 a.m. when an argument erupted.
Tensions escalated when Patrick was allegedly told he was "wearing the wrong color," leading to a confrontation with another partygoer, Isaiah Lucas. Witnesses reported that Lucas displayed a bandana and flashed gang signs. Despite Patrick's attempts to de-escalate the situation by stating he was not involved in gang activity and asking Lucas to put the bandana away, the argument intensified.
The verbal altercation quickly turned violent when Lucas allegedly retrieved a firearm and shot Patrick multiple times. Two other individuals, a 25-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, were also wounded in the shooting but were expected to recover. Patrick was pronounced dead at the scene, his life cut short in a senseless act of violence.
Following the shooting, Isaiah Lucas fled the scene but was apprehended by police near the Jordan River Trail. Investigators discovered a gun holster and a bandana matching witness descriptions along his escape route. Lucas was subsequently arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges including aggravated murder, aggravated assault, and obstruction of justice.
