Tony Wymer, a 55-year-old White male, was shot and killed in a road rage incident in Fort Duchesne, Utah, on the evening of December 29, 2018. Wymer, a U.S. Navy veteran who served in Desert Storm, was described by his family as a quiet and easygoing man.
The tragic events unfolded as Wymer was driving home from his job at an oilfield service company. Another vehicle began tailgating him, and in an attempt to get the driver to back off, Wymer tapped his brakes.
The other driver then reportedly sped up and intentionally collided with the back of Wymer's vehicle. Following the collision, both drivers initially pulled into a nearby police station parking lot. However, the other driver then sped away.
Wymer followed the other vehicle to a second location where both men exited their vehicles. An altercation ensued, during which the other driver pulled out a handgun and shot Wymer twice in the chest, killing him at the scene.
Following the incident, the FBI and Bureau of Indian Affairs launched an investigation as the shooting occurred on the Uintah and Ouray Indian Reservation. Within days, authorities arrested a 36-year-old male, who was identified as a member of the Ute Indian Tribe, in connection with the fatal shooting.
