On January 27, 2019, Sarah Hawley, a 27-year-old first-year family medicine resident at the University of Utah, was tragically killed in an apparent murder-suicide at her Sugar House home in Salt Lake City. Her boyfriend, 30-year-old Travis Geddes, is believed to have fatally shot Hawley before taking his own life. The couple had recently relocated from the San Francisco Bay Area to Salt Lake City, where Hawley was beginning her medical residency.
