On August 24, 2019, 17-year-old Kaylissa O'Leary died from a gunshot wound at a house party in Taylorsville, Utah. She was a student at Copper Hills High School and had just begun her senior year.

The incident was initially reported as a possible self-inflicted gunshot, with the person who called 911 claiming that O'Leary had shot herself. However, as the investigation progressed, the Unified Police Department began to consider her death as suspicious.
