Crystal Michelle Turner, a 38-year-old Caucasian female, and her wife, Kylen Schulte, were enjoying a nomadic lifestyle, living out of their van and camping in the scenic La Sal Mountains near Moab, Utah. In the days leading up to their deaths, the couple became unsettled by a man they described to friends as a "creepy dude" who was camping near them. They reported that this individual was behaving strangely, skulking around their campsite.
Despite their concerns, they didn't believe they were in imminent danger. The couple was last seen alive on the evening of August 13, 2021, at a local tavern in Moab.
After failing to show up for their respective jobs for a couple of days, friends and family grew increasingly worried. On August 18, 2021, a friend who had gone searching for them discovered their bodies at their campsite in the mountains. Both women had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The discovery launched a comprehensive investigation into the double homicide, a crime that deeply troubled the small community of Moab.
The investigation eventually zeroed in on a suspect named Adam Pinkusiewicz, a former coworker of Crystal Turner at a local McDonald's. It was determined that Pinkusiewicz was the "creepy camper" the women had been worried about. Co-workers reported that Pinkusiewicz had displayed aggressive behavior in the weeks prior to the murders and had a conflict with Turner, whom he described as "bossy." Investigators learned that Pinkusiewicz had confessed the murders to another individual, providing specific details about the crime that were not publicly known.
Before law enforcement could apprehend him, Adam Pinkusiewicz fled Utah and took his own life on September 24, 2021. Authorities found that the type of ammunition used in his suicide matched the unusual bullets found at the murder scene. With Pinkusiewicz's confession and the corroborating evidence, the Grand County Sheriff's Office concluded that he acted alone in the murders of Crystal Turner and Kylen Schulte. In January 2023, the case was officially closed.
