On the night of July 23, 2022, 18-year-old Fayzan Ali was killed in a drive-by shooting outside a house party in West Jordan, Utah. Ali, along with Ayash Mohamed, 18, and Mohamed Mohamed, 20, all from Millcreek, were standing outside a residence at 3355 W. 6920 South when occupants of one or more vehicles opened fire. The incident, which police believe to be a targeted and planned act of gang-related violence, resulted in the deaths of all three young men.
One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two, including Ali, succumbed to their injuries after being transported to a local hospital.
The subsequent investigation into the triple homicide led to multiple arrests. Investigators believe the shooters were rival gang members who had intentionally sought out the victims. According to court documents, at least 27 shots were fired during the attack. Witnesses at the scene described a white Cadillac leaving the area, which led police to their first suspect, a 16-year-old boy who was arrested and charged with murder, obstruction of justice, and other gun-related offenses. A search of the vehicle and the teen's home produced a gun.
Over the course of the investigation, several other individuals have been charged in connection with the killings. Steven Donovan Carmona, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, faces three counts of aggravated murder and other firearm-related charges. Three other teenagers, aged 15 and 16, are facing the same charges in juvenile court. Another suspect, Stefon Samuel Sandoval, who was 15 at the time of the incident, has been certified to stand trial as an adult on three counts of aggravated murder. Additionally, Quincy Jason Lewis Holt pleaded guilty to obstructing justice and was sentenced to three years of probation. Estuardo Castaneda, a documented gang member, was also arrested and booked for investigation of obstruction of justice, with police stating he was involved in moving the firearms used in the homicide.
