In the late hours of a summer night in New Britain, Connecticut, the life of 19-year-old Cory Earl Washington, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On August 18, 2014, at approximately 10:49 p.m., the sound of gunfire pierced the air in the vicinity of 62 Roberts Street. Concerned residents quickly dialed for help, reporting the unsettling sounds and the sight of a person lying in the street.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a young man suffering from an
apparent gunshot wound. Emergency medical services were promptly dispatched, and the victim, later identified as Cory Earl Washington, was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead. The incident was quickly classified as a homicide, prompting an intensive investigation by the New Britain Police Department. Detectives began to piece together the events of that fateful night, appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the person or persons responsible for Washington's death.
Several months later, a breakthrough in the case brought a measure of hope for justice. In late November 2014, authorities announced the arrest of 21-year-old Bryant Wilson in connection with the murder of Cory Earl Washington. Wilson was formally charged with murder. At the time of his arrest for the homicide, Wilson was already in custody, being held on unrelated assault and firearms charges. Following the murder charge, his bond was set at a substantial one million dollars, and he was scheduled for arraignment in December of that year.
